Hi, I’m Mike Hamlin. I am 58
and I live in Washington, DC. My
life has been an active one with all the swimming and running, climbing
and walking that everyone takes for granted.
Three years ago I learned that I have Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. I
was shocked and felt numb. Perhaps you or someone you know has been
through an experience like this.
MMD is a caused by an inherited gene and leads to progressive wasting
of muscles in the face, neck, hands, feet, and several internal organs
such as the brain, heart, lungs, and gastrointestinal system.
Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy is the most common form of muscular
dystrophy affecting adults and the second most common in
children.
My initial shock is now a determination to help find a cure for
MMD. Not a cure for me – but for those thousands of kids and
adults who deserve the opportunity to make a difference with their
lives. Like anyone, they have dreams and goals and want to leave
their mark on the world. With muscle strength, clear minds, and
sound hearts they could thrive and have the opportunity to live fully.
So, what are your next steps? First, review the information on
this website. Questions?
